The results of the semen analysis are then compared to a reference range, such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) which indicates ‘normal’ limits. Other parameters may also include:

  • P.H of the sample
  • Antibody status

Low numbers of sperm in a sample is known as Oligozoospermia. Lower numbers may then mean less sperm are able to succeed in the journey from the vagina to the fallopian tube to fertilise the egg.

Low motile or no motile sperm in the ejaculate is known as Athenozoosperma. Reduced numbers of motile sperm may reduce the success in the sperm getting to the fallopian tube.
