GIFT

GIFT (gamete intra-fallopian transfer)

GIFT was one of the first infertility treatments. It is similar to the process of IVF. It involves the female taking drugs to stimulate the ovaries. The eggs collected are screened. A sperm sample is also produced. The eggs and sperm are placed directly into the fallopian tubes to enable natural fertilisation to occur.

There is a higher incident of multiple births with this procedure as there is no limit on the number of eggs replaced into the fallopian tubes by using GIFT.
