Tubal damage may occur as a result of many different factors. There may be no symptoms and it may be that it is through infertility investigations that tubal damage is diagnosed. This diagnosis can be indicated by Hycosy or HSG and confirmed by laparoscopy. Tubal damage may have occurred as a result of:
The tubes may also be blocked or damaged as a result of Endometriosis. The tubes may also be distended and filled with fluid; this is referred to as Hydrosalpnx. As a result of the fluid in the tube fertilization may not be able to take place. Consequently it may be recommended prior to IVF treatment that the Hydrosalpnx are removed as fluid can back track along the tubes into the uterus. If there are no other contra indications IVF may be recommended if tubal damage is identified as the cause of infertility.
